Let’s go on a trip to Okinawa
Okinawa is a tropical island chain located between mainland Japan and Taiwan, made up of over 150 islands. Known for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and historical sites from World War II, Okinawa offers both natural beauty and cultural depth. The main island features attractions like the Okinawa Peace Memorial Museum and the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, home to whale sharks and manta rays.
Nakijin Village, located in the northern part of Okinawa Island known as "Yanbaru," is rich in nature, tradition, and history. Known for its agriculture and fishing, the village is home to Nakijin Castle Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu." Famous for cherry blossoms and the beauty of local women, Nakijin also holds many legends passed down through family records and oral traditions.
Gogayama was a former settlement in Nakijin Village, Okinawa. In 1736, it was relocated to the present-day Goga area. The name "Goga" originates from the abundance of wild kiwi (sarunashi) found in the region. Historical records from earlier periods refer to it as "Goga Village," and it once served as a key stop along major travel routes of the time.
